Tree Board Academy

 

Phase One: Creating a successful community forestry program

Purpose & Need:   

Within the southern Illinois region, there are 20 Tree City USA communities. As part of the requirement to become a Tree City USA community, each community must have a municipal tree authority. This workshop will allow municipal tree authorities and local tree advocates to receive professional training on planning, fund-raising, marketing, and implementing community forestry projects and programs, as well as an opportunity to network with their southern Illinois peers.

Tentative Schedule & Agenda:

  • Using trees as a community & economic development tool (Paul W-SWIL RC&D) 20 minutes
  • Sharing local program successes and limitations (group session) 30 minutes
  • Marketing and public relations (Charlotte King-Snowden & King) 45 minutes

 

Networking break 20 minutes

 

  • Program planning, fund-raising, volunteer management (Jason Walker-ICCS) 45 minutes
  • Strategies for the future (group session) 30 minutes
  • Sources of assistance (speaker panel) 40 minutes
