BIO

Randall (Randy) Vaughn has been a Community Development Specialist with Illinois Coalition for Community Services since 1998. Randy has a Juris Doctor degree from Boston University and a Bachelor in Political Science degree from the University of Wyoming. He has assisted in organizing and presenting several workshops on different aspects of community organizing.

Randy worked for twenty years as a Business Manager for Chicago area theological schools, has a long history of involvement in community organizing, and has served as a board member and officer for several not for profit organizations.
 

PROJECTS:

Kankakee Area Affordable Housing Initiative:  This group is working to develop a funding proposal to develop housing for migrant and seasonal farm workers in the Kankakee area.  A Governor’s State University Master of Social Work student is working with this committee as her field education project and is working to develop an advisory committee of farm workers.

Ford County Community of Promise Mobilizing Committee: This is a committee of the Ford County Juvenile Justice Council with the main purpose of enabling communities and individuals to participate in implementing the Ford County Juvenile Justice Council County Plan. The Committee is seeking to mobilize the communities in the county (and in those communities in Iroquois County and Livingston County included in school districts with Ford County communities) into Communities of Promise promoting positive youth development youth in the communities.

Mentoring Ministry Development Committee: (Kankakee County) This committee is developing a proposal for volunteer mentors from member churches of the Gateway Coalition and other churches, to mentor foster youth on probation in the county.  In February 2005 a VISTA began a year of service assisting this committee.

Sun River Terrace Youth/Adult Entrepreneurship Committee:  This committee is working to develop an entrepreneurial spirit in this small community in Kankakee County.  In February 2005 a VISTA began a year of service assisting this committee.

Eastern Will County Field Education Projects:  Three Governor’s State University School of Social Work students are doing their Field Education with ICCS from September 2005 through April 2006.  One is working in Mokena, another in University Park, and the third is working with the Hispanic communities in eastern Will County.  Each is assessing the community/client and will work with community members to develop desired community development projects.
